One of my favorite places on the island of Maui is Kepaniwai Park in Iao Valley. The natural beauty of Maui surrounds
you. The clouds move throughout the valley. The cool clear water is perfect for taking a dip on hot days.
The park has been closed since mid September 2016 due to a severe storm which ripped through the island. Massive flooding in the valley caused a large portion of the parking lot to wash away down stream. There were several homes and other personal property

The park remained closed until early April 2017 when it reopened after renovations have been made. I recently had the time to go out to the park myself to see the aftermath of the storm and the renovations which were recently done to restore the park.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources released a statement in May announcing their
plans to reopen the state monument portion of the park sometime in mid July 2017. The state is working on slope stabilization as well as installing flexible traffic delineators and protective guard rails in several areas of the park to prepare for
visitors.
